A recent YouGov poll reveals that many Conservative voters are skeptical about Kemi Badenoch’s potential as Prime Minister, raising concerns about her leadership as she nears 100 days at the helm of the party.
The survey shows that while 48% of Conservative voters from the last general election see Badenoch as a potential PM, only 26% believe she would excel in the role. Among the general public, just 14% think she possesses the qualities needed to lead the country.
Badenoch, who has taken a firm stance on immigration, faces significant criticism from opposition voters. The poll indicates that 39% of Labour, Liberal Democrat, and Reform UK supporters view her as untrustworthy, with only 19% seeing her as trustworthy. Furthermore, 39% of voters described her as unlikeable, while 24% have a favorable view of her.
Despite these mixed opinions, Badenoch still retains support from a portion of her party’s base. The poll found that 56% of Conservative voters in 2024 approve of her leadership, while 17% hold a negative view.
The findings come at a difficult time for the Conservative Party, as a recent poll shows them trailing behind Labour and Reform UK in voter preference.
Badenoch, who was born in the UK to Nigerian parents, has been a vocal advocate for stricter immigration policies. She recently proposed that immigrants must live in the UK for at least 15 years before they can become eligible for a British passport.
“Britain is our home, it’s not a hotel,” she said. “It’s time to tell the truth on immigration and propose real plans. I want to reduce immigration and make living here actually mean something. I’m announcing that the Conservative Party is going to do things differently.”
