The Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced plans to achieve 100% smooth movement of goods across the country through rail.
According to the Managing Director of NRC, Kayode Opeifa, the corporation is committed to facilitating the movement of goods from Lagos to Kaduna Dry Port by the second quarter of this year.
Opeifa disclosed this during an inspection tour of the Kaduna Inland Dry Port, where he commended the management for sustaining service delivery.
The NRC boss stated that the corporation is assembling wagons at Kajola in Oyo State and addressing rolling stock issues to ensure the smooth movement of goods.
He also revealed that the corporation is partnering with Kaduna Dry Port, state governments, and private entities to protect tracks, reduce costs, and improve living standards.
The Managing Director of Inland Containers Nigeria Limited, Omotayo Dada, expressed optimism that productivity would increase by 70% before the end of the year.
The NRC’s efforts to improve rail services are expected to have a positive impact on the economy, creating jobs and stimulating growth.
The rail network’s revitalization will also reduce the pressure on the country’s roads, decreasing congestion and improving road safety. Additionally, it will provide a more efficient and cost-effective way to transport goods, making Nigerian businesses more competitive in the global market.
The NRC’s target of achieving 100% rail movement of goods nationwide is in line with the federal government’s plan to diversify the economy and promote economic growth.
The corporation’s efforts are also expected to reduce the cost of doing business in Nigeria, as well as improve the overall efficiency of the transportation sector.
With the NRC’s commitment to improving rail services, Nigeria is poised to become a major player in the global logistics industry.
