DMG Events, a prominent organiser of in-person events and publisher of trade magazines, is urging the acceleration of industrialisation in West Africa, stressing its significance for the economic growth of countries like Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, and others.
In a recent statement, the company highlighted the importance of industrialisation, referencing a report from the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, which revealed that Africa’s share of global GDP in 2024 was only 3%, with its contribution to global manufacturing valued at just 2%.
DMG also pointed out that the upcoming West Africa Industrialisation, Manufacturing & Trade (West Africa – IMT) Summit and Exhibition, set for Lagos, Nigeria, from 27 – 29 May 2025, would play a crucial role in shifting focus towards product valorisation and export, with the potential to generate returns more than 10 times the original value.
The company added, “With abundant natural resources, a young workforce, renewable energy potential, arable land, a growing middle class, and a cost-competitive labour force, Africa holds many of the key ingredients for industrial success. However, the region continues to face challenges, including the impact of climate change on agriculture, rising energy and food prices due to geopolitical tensions, and political instability.”
It further stressed that effective reforms and the right policy measures could attract investors and create an environment conducive to business growth. The adoption of advanced technologies for cleaner energy and green industrialisation could enable African nations to accelerate their industrial progress.
The West Africa Industrialisation, Manufacturing & Trade (West Africa – IMT) Summit and Exhibition is seen as a landmark initiative aimed at unlocking the region’s industrial potential. By promoting discussions on key industrialisation and trade strategies and connecting companies to drive business development, the event is positioned to play a pivotal role in supporting regional and international stakeholders in leading a sustainable industrial revolution.
