Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has made it clear that the country won’t tolerate disrespect from any nation towards its citizens. This statement comes after several Nigerian athletes were denied visas to participate in the Invictus Games in Vancouver, Canada.

General Musa emphasized that Nigeria deserves respect on the global stage and won’t accept any form of disrespect or unfair treatment. He praised the wounded soldiers who participated in the games, saying their courage and determination have left a lasting impact.

Despite the visa denial, the Nigerian team secured six medals, including gold, silver, and bronze. Air Vice Marshal Nanjul Kumzhi, Director of Sports at the Defence Headquarters, lamented the visa denial, stating that only 14 out of 25 team members were granted visas.

The Federal Government is taking action to address the issue, and General Musa assured that injured military personnel won’t be abandoned. “Whatever it takes to raise the morale of our troops, we will do it, no matter the cost,” he said.

Nigeria was the first and only African nation to participate in the Invictus Games and will also take part in the 2027 Games in Birmingham. The Invictus Games is an international multi-sport event for wounded, injured, and sick servicemen and women, including serving personnel and veterans.
