Nigeria, Belgium to Boost Food Security Ties

Nigeria and Belgium are set to strengthen economic ties to enhance food security, according to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.

The Minister made this known after a meeting with the Belgian Ambassador, Pieter Leenknegt, in Abuja. The meeting aimed to explore opportunities for cooperation in agriculture and food security.

According to the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry of Finance, Mohammed Manga, Edun highlighted Nigeria’s improving economy, citing declining inflation, price stability, and increased savings in the federation account.

The finance minister emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting farmers through sustainable policies, aimed at boosting agricultural productivity. He reiterated President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to key macroeconomic reforms.

Leenknegt expressed Belgium’s interest in deepening economic relations with Nigeria for mutual benefit. The two countries are expected to continue exploring opportunities for cooperation.

This development is seen as a significant step towards strengthening economic ties between Nigeria and Belgium, with a focus on enhancing food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
