The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has confirmed that some federal workers were overpaid in December 2024 due to a system error. These overpayments are being recovered through salary deductions from the affected workers.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Bawa Mokwa, the OAGF clarified that there were no shortfalls in salaries paid to federal workers in January and February 2025. It emphasized that salaries received during this period were regular payments, following the completion of various arrears paid in the final quarter of 2024.

The statement explained that from October to December 2024, workers had received arrears related to the minimum wage, the 25% and 35% salary increases, and wage awards. These additional payments temporarily inflated their salaries, leading some workers to mistakenly believe their January and February salaries had been reduced.

“Normal salary payments resumed in January 2025 after the arrears were fully processed, causing some workers to think they were underpaid, when in fact, they received their real salaries,” the statement clarified, adding that the current salary table reflects this.

The OAGF also stated that unless further adjustments are made by the Federal Government, the salaries paid in January and February 2025 will remain unchanged.

Regarding the December 2024 overpayments, the OAGF confirmed that the system error responsible for the excess payments had been corrected, and the recovery process through salary deductions is ongoing.

Furthermore, the OAGF addressed the payment of promotion arrears, noting that the Standing Committee on Promotion and Salary Arrears in the Budget Office of the Federation manages this process. It confirmed that batches 1 to 6 of promotion arrears payments have been fully processed, with additional payments awaiting approval from the Budget Office.

The OAGF reiterated its commitment to efficient payroll management and encouraged workers with legitimate salary complaints to utilize formal resolution channels.
