The Host Communities Producing Oil, Gas and Pipeline Impacted States Youth Council of Nigeria (HOSTCON) has pledged to partner with the Senate Ad-Hoc Committee on Crude Oil Theft to combat crude oil theft in Nigeria.
The National President of HOSTCON, Comrade Emmanuel Fiawei Pathfinder, made the pledge in Yenagoa over the weekend, expressing confidence in the ability of Senator Ned Nwoko, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Crude Oil Theft and Other Related Matters, to tackle the menace.
According to Pathfinder, Senator Nwoko’s background as an international criminal lawyer makes him the right person to lead the fight against crude oil theft.
“We have no doubt that Senator Nwoko will bring lasting solutions to the menace of crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and illegal bunkering activities in the Niger Delta region,” Pathfinder said.
Senator Nwoko has already taken steps to address the issue, including leading a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, to seek a partnership with the military. He has also set up a surveillance team for overt and covert oversight on oil facilities and institutions.
HOSTCON has thrown its full weight behind Senator Nwoko-led Ad hoc Committee on Crude Oil Theft and Other Related Matters, and is committed to working with the 10th Senate to improve the oil and gas value chain in Nigeria.
The partnership is expected to strengthen the fight against crude oil theft and bring about a significant reduction in the menace.
