Pope Francis is no longer in danger and may be discharged from the hospital soon, the Vatican announced on Monday.

The 88-year-old pontiff has been hospitalized for nearly a month with pneumonia, sparking concerns about his health and future.

However, according to the Vatican, the pope’s condition has improved significantly, and he is now able to participate in spiritual exercises and prayers remotely.

“The improvements recorded in the previous days have been further consolidated, as confirmed by blood tests and clinical objectivity and the good response to pharmacological therapy,” the Vatican said in a statement.

The Vatican added that the pope’s prognosis is no longer considered “reserved,” or uncertain, and he may be able to return home to the Vatican soon.

Pope Francis has been receiving treatment at Rome’s Gemelli hospital since February 14, and his hospitalization has sparked a global outpouring of support and prayers for his recovery.

As the pope marks 12 years as leader of the Catholic Church on Thursday, speculation is growing about whether he will be able to participate in Easter celebrations, which culminate on April 20.
