South African businessman Patrice Motsepe has been re-elected unopposed as the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for a second four-year term.
The 63-year-old mining magnate and owner of South African club Mamelodi Sundowns was first elected as CAF president in 2021. His re-election was confirmed during the organization’s extraordinary general assembly held in Cairo on Wednesday.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino was in attendance at the assembly, which also saw elections for CAF’s executive committee. Cameroonian football legend Samuel Eto’o secured a seat on the committee.
Motsepe expressed his commitment to building on the progress achieved during his first term, which included various reforms aimed at strengthening African football.
The re-election of Motsepe is expected to have a significant impact on the future of African football, as he seeks to continue his efforts to develop and promote the sport on the continent
