At least 27 people were killed and dozens more injured after tornadoes and violent storms swept across the central United States on Saturday. The storms caused widespread destruction, with roofs torn off homes and large trucks overturned.
Eight people died in Kansas in a crash involving over 50 vehicles, caused by low visibility during a severe dust storm. Missouri State Highway Patrol confirmed 12 storm-related fatalities, with six reported in Wayne County, three in Ozark County, and one each in Butler, Jefferson, and St Louis counties.
Further south, four people died in vehicle accidents linked to dust storms and fires in Texas, while three people died and 29 were injured in Arkansas. Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders declared a state of emergency in response.
The National Weather Service warned of more tornadoes to come, with at least 200,000 homes and businesses left without power across the central United States.
