Panama is working to restore power after a nationwide blackout left the country in darkness on Sunday night. The outage, which occurred just before midnight, was caused by damage to a private generator, according to President Jose Raul Mulino.
As a result, access to drinking water was also halted due to the impact on water treatment plants, the Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (IDAAN) reported.
Mulino shared a video on X, showing what he claimed was an explosion at a facility located southwest of Panama City. In his post, he assured the public that power would be restored gradually and stated he was awaiting a full report on the incident.
