Samsung Co-CEO Han Jong-Hee Dies at 63

Samsung Electronics Co-CEO Han Jong-Hee passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, due to cardiac arrest, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the company. Han was 63 years old.

Born in 1962, Han had been leading Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile devices sectors since 2022, when he was appointed vice chairman and co-CEO of the company. His co-CEO, Jun Young-Hyun, oversees Samsung’s semiconductor division.

In a tribute shared internally, Samsung expressed its deep sorrow over Han’s passing. The company acknowledged his 37-year contribution, particularly in transforming Samsung’s TV business into a global leader. His leadership in the electronics and appliances sectors was also instrumental in the company’s continued growth, despite challenging market conditions.

“Our deepest condolences are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the message stated.

As of now, no announcement has been made regarding Han’s successor.

Han’s Leadership and Legacy

Han joined Samsung in 1988 after earning a degree in electrical engineering from Inha University. Before becoming co-CEO, he had been responsible for the display division, playing a pivotal role in shaping the company’s success in that sector.

At an investor meeting held just the week prior to his death, Han had expressed concerns about the company’s stock performance and warned of a challenging 2025 due to global economic uncertainties. He also mentioned that Samsung would be exploring strategic mergers and acquisitions to boost its growth in the coming year.

Han’s leadership and vision helped Samsung maintain its competitive edge and adapt to an ever-changing tech landscape. He will be remembered for his pivotal role in the company’s success.
