On Saturday, thousands of protesters gathered in Washington, D.C., and cities nationwide for what organizers called the largest single-day demonstration against President Donald Trump and his ally, billionaire Elon Musk. The protests, part of over 1,200 planned events, were aimed at opposing Trump’s recent efforts to expand presidential powers and reshape the federal government.
In the nation’s capital, protesters braved overcast skies and light rain, assembling near the Washington Monument. Organizers projected more than 20,000 attendees on the National Mall. Around 150 activist groups participated in the demonstrations, with protests occurring in all 50 states and parts of Canada and Mexico.
As the day went on, the crowd grew larger, with many holding signs and symbols representing a range of global and domestic issues. Ukrainian flags were visible, alongside Palestinian keffiyeh scarves and signs reading “Free Palestine.” Democratic lawmakers also took the stage to condemn Trump’s policies.
Wayne Hoffman, a retired money manager from West Cape May, New Jersey, expressed concerns over Trump’s economic policies, particularly his tariff strategy. “It’s going to cost farmers in red states. It’s going to cost people their jobs and 401(k)s. People have already lost tens of thousands of dollars,” Hoffman told reporters.
Protests are expected to continue in the coming days as opposition to Trump’s policies continues to grow.
