A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has appealed to the Federal Government to release monthly allocations to the court-reinstated APC-elected local government chairmen in Osun State. Oyintiloye made this appeal after addressing newsmen in Osogbo, the state capital, emphasizing that the state government would be held accountable for the funds spent on the recently conducted local government election, which he deemed a waste of taxpayers’ money.
Oyintiloye praised the reinstated council chairmen for resuming duty despite alleged intimidation by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and urged local government staff to return to work, assuring them of adequate security. He also commended the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his professionalism in handling security matters in the state.
The appeal comes after the Court of Appeal reinstated the APC-elected local government chairmen in Osun State, who were sacked in 2022. Oyintiloye emphasized that releasing the allocations would enable the chairmen to focus on delivering dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
According to Oyintiloye, the reinstated chairmen have a responsibility to provide essential services to the people, including payment of salaries, provision of healthcare, and maintenance of infrastructure. He noted that the delay in releasing the allocations would hinder the chairmen’s ability to perform their duties effectively.
Oyintiloye urged the Federal Government to take immediate action to release the allocations, stating that any further delay would be detrimental to the well-being of the people of Osun State. He also called on the state government to cooperate with the reinstated chairmen, emphasizing the need for peaceful coexistence and collaboration in the interest of the state.
