The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced Egypt as the host for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. The decision came after Côte d’Ivoire, initially set to host the tournament from April 26 to May 18, withdrew from its hosting duties just one month before the event.
CAF confirmed that Côte d’Ivoire’s withdrawal was due to “unforeseen circumstances,” as stated in an official release on Thursday evening. As a result, Egypt, which hosted the previous edition of the competition, will once again take on the responsibility of hosting the tournament, now rescheduled to begin on April 27, 2025.
In this new edition of the U-20 AFCON, Nigeria’s Flying Eagles are placed in Group B, alongside Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa. The top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, with the best two third-placed teams also earning spots in the quarter-finals. Semi-finalists will automatically qualify for the 2025 U-20 World Cup in Chile.
