Canada has recently updated its Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) policies, eliminating the field-of-study requirement for international students who graduate from college degree programs. This change applies to both college and university graduates, aiming to simplify regulations and make Canada’s international education sector more accessible.

Previously, the field-of-study rule, introduced in 2024, was only applicable to college graduates, leaving university graduates unaffected. This rule was part of a broader initiative to tighten oversight of international education, according to a report from ICEF Monitor, as cited by *The Economic Times*.

Under the new policy, graduates from any Canadian bachelor’s or master’s degree program—whether from a college or university—can now apply for the PGWP, provided they meet the required language standards.

The revised policy is expected to benefit Canadian colleges, which have long been popular among international students, particularly in business-related programs. These institutions are recognized for equipping students with skills highly sought after in the Canadian job market.

By removing the field-of-study restrictions, the Canadian government aims to make colleges more attractive to international students, increasing their competitiveness in the global education market.
