The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has once again emphasized the Nigerian Armed Forces’ unwavering commitment to supporting United Nations peacekeeping efforts.
This declaration was made in a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, on Wednesday in Abuja.
General Musa shared this pledge during a meeting with the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Mohammed Fall. He encouraged the UN to collaborate with state governments to facilitate the return of displaced persons and refugees to their communities. Additionally, he called on the UN to forge partnerships for global security.
The CDS highlighted the significance of civil-military relations, asserting that they are often more effective than traditional military operations.
Earlier, Mr. Fall acknowledged the long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship between the Nigerian military and the UN. He noted that the Nigerian military plays a pivotal role in UN peacekeeping missions and stressed the need for continued support to stabilize the region.
Fall further praised Nigeria’s contributions to global peace and security, underscoring the country’s leadership role in Africa. He appealed for more support for the Nigerian Armed Forces, recognizing their vital importance to the UN due to Nigeria’s demographics and leadership in the continent.
