The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather outlook predicting a mix of sunshine and thunderstorms across the country from Wednesday through Friday.
According to the forecast released Tuesday in Abuja, sunny skies are expected in the northern region on Wednesday, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms likely over areas including Kaduna, Adamawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, and Taraba.
In the North Central region, sunny conditions with increased cloud cover are forecast, along with possible thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening across the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Plateau, Niger, Kwara, and Kogi.
For the southern states, the morning is expected to be cloudy with sunny spells, followed by localized thunderstorms in Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa. Thunderstorms are likely to continue across most parts of the region later in the day.
Thursday’s Forecast
Morning thunderstorms are anticipated over Kebbi, Taraba, Borno, and Adamawa States.
Later in the day, more storms may affect Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kaduna.
The North Central region is expected to have cloudy skies, with morning thunderstorms in Niger and Kwara and widespread storms by afternoon.
In the South, morning thunderstorms are likely in Ogun, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos, with storms persisting through the day.
Friday’s Outlook
Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are predicted in the North, with morning storms in Taraba and Adamawa and further activity expected later in the day across Borno and Kaduna.
The North Central region will see cloudy skies with thunderstorms in Benue early on, expanding to the entire region by afternoon.
In the South, morning thunderstorms are likely over Enugu, Imo, Awka, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa, continuing into the afternoon.
NiMet’s Advisory
NiMet advised the public to take precautions, noting that strong winds may accompany thunderstorms, posing risks in affected areas. Airline operators were urged to obtain airport-specific forecasts for proper flight planning.
