Abuja, Nigeria – The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has launched a €36.33 million initiative aimed at strengthening resilience and economic stability in Northeastern Nigeria. The programme, funded by the European Union and the German government, will focus on enhancing social protection systems, fostering economic resilience, and promoting gender equality and social inclusion.
The programme will benefit vulnerable populations in Borno, and Adamawa, States, who have been affected by insurgency and displacement. According to FAO, the initiative will support the recovery and development of the region by providing critical assistance to affected communities.
FAO Representative Koffy Dominique Kouacou emphasized the importance of agricultural systems in the region’s recovery, highlighting the need for inclusive collaboration to address the needs of vulnerable populations and promote long-term growth and prosperity.
“The collaboration we envision is inclusive, addressing the needs of the most vulnerable populations while paving the way for long-term growth and prosperity,” Kouacou said.
The programme is part of the Supporting Sustainable Social Contract and Social Protection, Participation, and Economic Resilience in Northeast Nigeria programme. It will be implemented in partnership with the governments of Borno and Adamawa state as well as other development partners.
