Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, revealed on Monday that the Federal Government is developing a Diaspora City to encourage Nigerians abroad to invest and reconnect with their heritage.

Speaking in Abuja during the announcement of the Motherland 2025 initiative, Musawa explained that the ministry’s focus goes beyond just revitalizing tourism. It is also committed to fostering economic growth, cultural exchange, and community development.

“Our vision extends beyond drawing global visitors; it’s about utilizing the creative and tourism sectors as vital tools to improve the lives of Nigerians,” she said.

Musawa highlighted that Motherland 2025 is more than just a festival—it’s a bold initiative reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a hub for global Black and African culture, commerce, and community.

“This year, we invite the global diaspora to immerse themselves in our rich traditions, explore investment opportunities, and witness the incredible transformations happening across our nation,” she continued. “Motherland 2025 offers a fully immersive experience that showcases Nigeria’s vibrancy, creativity, and economic potential. With state pavilions, exhibitions, and cultural displays, we spotlight Nigeria’s innovation, business landscape, and the cultural heritage of all 36 states and the FCT. Additionally, the Motherland Ambassador Awards will honor outstanding members of the diaspora making significant contributions to their fields.”

She added that Motherland 2025 is not just a one-time event, but a catalyst for sustained engagement, creating lasting connections between the diaspora and their homeland, as well as between investors and opportunities. It will also connect global travelers with Nigeria’s dynamic cultural offerings. As part of the long-term vision, the government is developing Diaspora City—a flourishing tourism hub designed to allow members of the diaspora to invest, reconnect, and establish deeper roots in Nigeria.

Chidinma Nwakwo, Managing Director of Discover Motherland Africa, also spoke at the event, describing the launch of the initiative as the beginning of a transformative movement that not only reconnects the diaspora with their roots but also unlocks investment opportunities and fosters cultural pride.
