Nigerian travel content creator, Alma Asinobi, recently made history with a record-breaking journey that took her across all seven continents, proudly carrying the Nigerian flag. She became the first person to complete such a feat, with her Nigerian passport, in an astonishing 71 hours, 26 minutes, and 25 seconds.
Asinobi’s remarkable journey began with her traversing Antarctica, South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and concluding in Australia on Sunday. In a celebratory Instagram post, she shared her excitement: “Our Nigerian flag is officially the first and fastest flag to visit all 7 continents! I guess my work here is done. I cannot wait to be home.”
Her travels were not without their obstacles. Asinobi faced significant challenges such as visa issues, flight delays, and travel restrictions associated with her Nigerian passport. One particularly difficult moment was when she was denied boarding to Perth, Australia, forcing her to rebook a flight to Sydney, which resulted in her delayed arrival.
Despite the difficulties, Asinobi celebrated the end of her journey in a heartfelt post: “Continent 8 (Dreamland) was kind to me. No visas needed, no flight needed, just a bed. To be honest, any bed would have been fine. I just needed my swollen feet to not move for a few hours and all I can say is… mission accomplished.”
While she did not break the current Guinness World Record for the fastest journey across all continents—held by American Johnny Cruz Buckingham at 64 hours—Asinobi’s achievement remains historic. Her journey has also sparked important conversations about passport inequality and the challenges faced by Nigerians in global travel.
Looking ahead, Asinobi is planning a homecoming event on March 30, where she hopes to break another record by gathering Nigerians to sign the flag she carried throughout her journey.
