A top United Nations official has raised alarms over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, warning that the country is edging closer to developing an atomic bomb.

In an interview with *Le Monde* published Wednesday, Rafael Grossi, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), acknowledged that while Iran hasn’t yet built a bomb, it is disturbingly close.

“They’re not far from it, you have to acknowledge,” Grossi said. Comparing the process to assembling a jigsaw puzzle, he added, “Iran has the pieces, and they could eventually put them together.”

His comments came just hours before his scheduled arrival in Tehran for high-level discussions with Iranian officials.

The IAEA continues to monitor Iran’s compliance with the 2015 nuclear agreement, a deal that unraveled after former U.S. President Donald Trump pulled out during his term in office.
