Speaker Mojisola Meranda is currently presiding over the plenary at the Lagos State House of Assembly, while ousted Speaker Mudashiru Obasa is absent.
Earlier, Obasa, Meranda, and other lawmakers held a meeting outside the chamber, which was attended by leaders of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, including Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi.
The Attorney General of Lagos State, Lawal Pedro, was also present at the meeting, which aimed to resolve the leadership crisis at the House.
However, it’s unclear how the issue will be resolved, as Obasa later left the meeting after a separate chat with the AG, Ojelabi, and other party stakeholders.
Meranda, a former Deputy Speaker, was made Speaker by over 30 lawmakers on January 13 after Obasa’s removal.
The development has led to a leadership tussle between Meranda and Obasa.
The lawmakers are currently eulogising Meranda, saluting her leadership so far.
The meeting held ahead of the plenary, which commenced around 2 pm.
Heavy security presence was observed at the assembly complex, with security personnel manning the entrance and checking vehicles.
The leadership crisis has been ongoing for weeks, with both Meranda and Obasa claiming to be the legitimate Speaker of the House.
