Nigeria and Namibia are exploring possibilities for direct flights between the two countries, a move aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and improving trade relations.
Namibia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Humphrey Geiseb, recently met with Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to discuss the initiative.
Keyamo expressed his support for the proposal and suggested that Xejet, a Nigerian carrier, could be a potential partner in establishing direct flights.
The minister cited the successful Algeria/Lagos/Cameroon flight route as a model for regional cooperation, and emphasized the importance of improving air connectivity between Nigeria and Namibia.
Currently, travelers between the two countries are forced to transit through Addis Ababa, with occasional flights via TAG Airlines being insufficient to meet demand.
Keyamo also raised concerns about visa challenges between the two countries and encouraged the Ambassador to work towards resolving these issues.
Both countries are committed to strengthening their bilateral ties and improving aviation cooperation.
