The House of Representatives has summoned the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, Kogi State, Dr. Olatunde Alabi, over the hospital’s deplorable state.
The summons follows an investigative report, which exposed the hospital’s lack of modern facilities, leading to inadequate healthcare services and preventable deaths.
According to a letter dated March 11, 2025, the House Committee on Health Institutions invited the hospital’s stakeholders to an emergency meeting to address the issues raised in the report.
The committee’s chairman, in the letter, stated that the invitation was in response to a petition against the institution.
The investigation revealed the hospital’s crumbling infrastructure, outdated equipment, and staff demoralization. It also highlighted the scarcity of basic medical supplies, lifesaving equipment, and compatible blood for patients.
The report sparked widespread outrage, with many calling for urgent reforms and improvements to the hospital’s services.
The House of Representatives’ intervention is seen as a significant step towards addressing the hospital’s challenges and ensuring better healthcare services for the people of Kogi State.
