The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has dismissed rumors of a system collapse, attributing recent power outages to line tripping.
In a statement released on Saturday, TCN explained that the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330kV transmission line tripped on February 12, causing a cascaded outage that affected areas in Abuja, Lagos, and Osogbo.
However, the company assured that power has been fully restored to the affected areas.
“We want to reassure the public that there has been no system collapse in 2025,” a TCN spokesperson said. “We are working tirelessly to ensure that the national grid is stable and secure.”
TCN emphasized that the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry is regulated by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and governed by industry documents.
The company urged the public and reporters to rely only on information from authorized sources, such as the TCN Public Affairs Department, to avoid spreading misinformation.
The clarification comes amid concerns over the reliability of the national power grid. TCN has assured that it is committed to providing efficient and reliable transmission services.
In related news, TCN has announced plans to upgrade and expand the national grid to ensure stable and secure electricity supply to Nigerians.
