US President Donald Trump, who has expressed interest in acquiring Greenland, is seen as highly unpredictable, according to the island’s Prime Minister, Mute Egede. Speaking to Danish public radio on the eve of Greenland’s legislative elections, Egede emphasized the global instability caused by Trump’s unpredictability, making people feel insecure.

In a recent address to the U.S. Congress, Trump reiterated his interest in Greenland, claiming the island was crucial for both U.S. national and international security. He also suggested that Greenland might one day join the U.S., adding that he was confident the U.S. would “get Greenland one way or another.”

These statements were met with laughter by Republican lawmakers, which many in Greenland interpreted as disrespectful. Egede responded by stating that Greenlanders deserve to be treated with respect, and that Trump’s comments had distanced them from wanting closer ties with the U.S.

He later posted on Facebook, saying that Greenlanders do not want to be part of the U.S. or Denmark, adding, “We are Greenlanders.”
