The UK’s ruling Labour Party announced on Saturday that it had suspended MP Dan Norris after his arrest on suspicion of sexual offences and rape involving a girl.
Police reported that a man in his 60s was arrested on Friday on charges including sexual offences against a girl, child abduction, and misconduct in a public office. Authorities added that while most of the alleged offences occurred in the 2000s, they are also investigating a recent alleged rape from the 2020s.
In a statement, the Labour Party confirmed Norris’ suspension: “Dan Norris MP was immediately suspended by the Labour Party upon being informed of his arrest. We cannot comment further while the police investigation is ongoing,” said a party spokesperson.
Norris, 65, was elected to parliament in 2024, defeating prominent Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg. He had previously served as a junior minister under former Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
