UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has invited over a dozen European and EU leaders to a summit on Sunday, aimed at advancing efforts for Ukraine’s security and sovereignty. The summit, set to take place in London, will focus on boosting European action on Ukraine, ensuring a lasting peace deal, and providing continued support for Ukraine amidst its ongoing war with Russia.

The summit will be preceded by a morning call with Baltic nations and will include one-on-one talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Downing Street. Leaders from countries such as France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, the EU, and NATO are expected to participate.

Following his discussions with US President Donald Trump in Washington, Starmer has also invited additional leaders from the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Romania. NATO chief Mark Rutte and EU heads Ursula von der Leyen and Antonio Costa are among the high-profile attendees.

The summit will build on earlier Paris talks and aims to strengthen Ukraine’s military support, increase economic pressure on Russia, and discuss plans for permanent security guarantees. While Starmer reaffirms Ukraine’s role in any peace negotiations, he also emphasizes Europe’s responsibility in collective defense.

The meeting follows recent comments by Trump, who signaled progress towards a potential deal to end the conflict but avoided committing to US security guarantees, raising concerns in Europe over his shift towards Russia.
