The U.S. government has issued a serious warning to Nigerian travelers about the consequences of overstaying their visa, stating that violators may face permanent bans from re-entering the country.
The U.S. Mission in Nigeria shared the warning on its official X account on Monday.
Immigration officials emphasized that consular officers can access an individual’s complete immigration history, making it virtually impossible to avoid penalties for past violations.
The U.S. government stressed that travelers must adhere strictly to the terms of their visas, and ignorance of regulations will not be accepted as an excuse.
The post read: “If you overstay your U.S. visa, you could face a permanent ban on traveling to the United States. Consular officers have full access to your immigration history and will know about past violations. There is no such thing as an ‘honest mistake’ – it is your responsibility to use your visa correctly.”
