A shocking lawsuit has been filed by a 38-year-old American woman, Krystena Murray, against a fertility clinic after she gave birth to a baby that was not biologically hers. The mistake occurred when the wrong embryo was implanted in her during an IVF procedure.

Murray, from Savannah, Georgia, had turned to in vitro fertilization to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother. However, when she gave birth to a healthy baby boy in December 2023, she immediately knew something was wrong – the child was Black, while both she and the sperm donor were white.

An investigation by the clinic, Coastal Fertility Specialists, revealed that doctors had mistakenly implanted another patient’s embryo into Murray. The clinic notified the baby’s biological parents, who demanded custody. Murray voluntarily surrendered the baby to avoid a legal battle.

The incident has left Murray “emotionally and physically broken.” She described the situation as feeling “violated” and like she had been an “unwitting surrogate” against her will. Murray’s lawsuit states that the clinic’s “extreme and outrageous” mistake has caused her significant emotional distress.

Coastal Fertility Specialists has apologized for the incident, describing it as an “isolated event” and an “unprecedented error.” The clinic has promised to do everything possible to make things right for those affected.

Murray’s case highlights the risks and potential consequences of IVF procedures. She had considered the risks of IVF before undergoing treatment but had never imagined that she might give birth to someone else’s child.
